About
Lately I find that I am forever telling someone from South Wales about something cool that is going on right under their own nose. This is particularly grating right now since I am 200 miles away from it all myself and living in Croydon.
Moving away really hammered home how great things are in South Wales right now in terms of alternative, underground, DIY activity. We have a vibrant diverse scene but perhaps we don’t see it until we step outside of it. So this is my attempt to take advantage of my ‘from the outside looking in’ perspective, and provide some kind of news site for the crap that happens in South Wales that:
a) you don’t see reported anywhere else
b) I seem to find out about about through word of mouth, think is dead cool, and end up telling a bunch of people about verbally.
That’s it. There is no big, consistent, planet saving agenda. And please don’t moan to me because I chose not to include something on here. I cherrypick, and I won’t apologise for that. Blog pages are free, go make your own if you’ve got an issue with what I am and aren’t covering.
Here’s the main categories of the information on this site. (Not all are live yet. I’m working on it. Ahem).
News - Short, regular items go in here.
Features - This is where we take an in depth look at something.
Off Topic - Shit that isn’t directly related to South Wales that I insist that you read me harping on about anyway.
Competitions - That’s right, we give goodies away. Sometimes.
Exclusives - Watch this space.
I desperately wanted this NOT to be in blog format. I love web 2.0 and I love how blogs are mobilising people into voicing their opinions, but I would prefer to be good enough with HTML, or even PHP, to be able to put something bespoke together from scratch. Alas this is not to be, though you are welcome to come around and see the failed attempts sat on my hard drive. Some people are coding geniuses, and some people can write tight web content all day. Some lucky types can do both, and of that I am more envious than I’ll admit to.For me, I can just about churn out regular news items so long as no extra effort is required to continually tweak CSS or HTML or engage in other Notepad based hocus pokus. So for these reasons, I have chosen a generic blog format. And no, I’m not sure I like this template either.
